A roopu will be heading to Wellington to take part in the opening of the new Te Taiao exhibition.

Komiti have identified this kaupapa as an opportunity to incorporate a Wānaka and Hīkoi while in Whanganui a Tara.  We have yet to finalise details but the rough outline will be as follows:

• Arrive Wednesday 8^th Noho options being investigated for up to 40 – whakawhanungatanga prep for opening.
• 9^thTe Papa dawn blessing and events, wānaka
• 10^thHīkoi whenua – program being drafted but proposal will be to visit areas associated with Mahakinui and sites of significance.
• 11^thHoki ki te kainga

Rangatahi Ngāi Tahu this is your calling to the most epic of adventures! Mean hikes, crack-up facilitation crew, mates for life – and best of all, Ngāi Tahutanga! Nau mai haere mai, enrol and join this mission of a lifetime.

This October we invite 12 Ngāi Tahu rangatahi between the ages of 15-18yrs to join us on a hīkoi through the exquisite Whakatipu Waitai/Hollyford Valley, and into Martins Bay. This seven day adventure is an opportunity for Ngāi Tahu rang…atahi to explore their:
Connection to Ngāi Tahutanga
Connection to the natural environment
Connection to self (self-identity/leadership/values).

It was a privilege to have Tā Mark, Maria, Uncle Kukupa and Aunty Ranui at home with us on 29^th April, to acknowledge and celebrate their contributions, and just to spend time with them.  The weather gods were kind to us and the day was fairly relaxed, powhiri, gifts, kōrero whare tipuna and then hākari, with speeches waiata and a three course meal…we had a great kaimahi/kaitautoko crew and the day went fantastically!

Tēnā rawa atu koutou. Nei rā hoki te mihi aroha ki te whānau o Kāti Māhaki, ki a koutou i whakapau wera mō te hui nei, e kore kā mihi e mutu!

The day dawned with the stunning sunrise turning the sky  beautiful shades of pink, orange and purples with the promise of a beautiful day. Which it was !!

 Whānau and local community attended our annual commemoration service that was conducted by Father Michael Mahoney & Pihopa Richard Wallace QSM, along with participation of Staff Sergeant Wayne Anderson RNZALR and Private Chase Whati RNZALR.

 Whānau sung waiata, told stories, poems and memories in honour of the returned servicemen and women. Our flag was raised and flapped in the breeze as a poppy and  wreath laying ceremony ended the commemorations and was followed by a wonderful shared kai for lunch.

On 22 April 2017, a van load of Kāti Māhaki members travelled to Weheka to tautoko the opening of their new community facilities. A wonderful effort by locals to achieve such a wonderful facility! Ka mau te wehi koutou!

ANZAC DAY SERVICE 2017

Te Tauraka Waka a Maui Marae, Mahitahi, April 25th at 10.30am.

Te Runaka o Makaawhio invites everyone wanting to participate, to come and join is at out marae, where we will once again be hosting our annual commemorative ANZAC Day Service.

Bring a plate for a share meal and come and help us share memories and stories about family/whanau members who fought in the wars, remember, acknowledge and celebrate their sacrifice and the contribution made by our brave service men and women.

Nau mai, haere mai, tauti mai!

This project will be over the next 18 months and will research our precious resource.
