Kaitoko Mātauranga
Role: Fixed-term/Part-time
Location: Te Rūnanga o Makaawhio

We are looking for an energetic and dynamic community leader to join us at this exciting time! The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying the learning needs of whānau in the designated takiwā or rohe of Te Rūnanga o Makaawhio and provide advice to enable whānau to reach their learning objectives. Your overall aim in this role is to empower Ngāi Tahu descendants to be life-long participants of learning.

This position will be based at the Rūnanga Office of Te Rūnanga o Makaawhio in Hokitika and the Kaitoko Mātauranga will report to the Kaiārahi Kaitoko - Team Leader at the home base of Te Whare o Te Waipounamu, Ōtautahi while also taking direction from the mātauranga needs and requirements of Te Rūnanga o Makaawhio. To succeed in this role it is essential that you possess a demonstrated high level of communication and relationship skills.

The Kaitoko Mātauranga roles will contribute to the implementation of Te Rautaki Mātauranga. Your ability to work with tribal members and their requirements with an awareness of, and an affinity for, the education needs and aspirations of Ngāi Tahu whānui is paramount, with a key focus being to understand values and mātauranga Ngāi Tahu in relation to education.

The qualities we are searching for include:
• Knowledge and experience working in the education sector
• Awareness and understanding of core Ngāi Tahu education documents
• Experience operating within stakeholder relationships and working with Papatipu Rūnanga
• Knowledge of tikanga, with competence in te reo Māori
• Demonstrate a strong affinity with Ngāi Tahu values and aspirations
