Awesome news! We have now confirmed our dates for the next Makaawhio – Te Ara Whakatipu Wānanga! Sunday 29th April – Saturday May 5th (includes two travel days; to and from Te Anau; two walking days (in and out of the valley) and 4 full days in the valley). We have spaces for 13 Rakatahi Mahaki who meet the following criteria
Age: 15-18 (some flexibility on a case by case basis) We will be seeking a mixture of gender – ideally a 50/50 split and a mix of engaged and competent in their Māhakitanga as well as dis-connected. The selection process might mean that some rakatahi may not be selected for this particular hīkoi, but there will be other opportunities to reapply, including for the hīkoi later this year. This is an excellent opportunity for our rakatahi to reconnect with the southernmost part of our rohe and with each other!!! Contact the office to receive more information! It wikll also be loaded onto our website in the next few days...deadline dates for applications is 17th March 2018...

Komiti Matauraka wishes to announce the Secondary Schools Grant 2018 is now open. These grants are to assist with school related expenses such as school and examination fees, field trips, uniform, stationary and other equipment etc used in school by the rakatahi.
Forms are available online via the rūnaka website or via the Makaawhio office by phoning to request form/s be posted to you 03 755 7885
Criteria – Open to Yrs 9 – 13 with proof of attendance to a secondary school, registration to Runaka or application to be processed, must whakapapa to Te Runanga o Makaawhio and a bank verified account must accompany all applications.
Closing date is the 23rd February 2018
